The purpose of this event is to encourage young people to vote and if they are not yet age eligible to vote, to at least register and preregister to vote. Kelly Siegel-Stechler, a Senior Researcher from the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning (CIRCLE) will share data on how the youth vote makes a difference. Kelly’s work is primarily focused on projects that advance civic learning and development in K-12 education, as well as questions related to youth political and electoral engagement. Celia Johnson, President and CEO of Massachusetts Women of Color Coalition will discuss the importance of young people of color voting and what MAWOCC is doing to encourage their participation in civic engagement. They will be followed by students from two different communities explaining their views on why it is important for young adults to vote and their projects for promoting youth voter engagement. The speakers will answer questions from the viewing audience.
